2016 has been an eventful year! We’ve had quite a few challenges before we even got to The Challenge but we’ve made it through and, in less than two weeks, we’ll be riding high on the excitement of this year’s competition.
Our year was happily organising itself until we lost our President in April. Shane Cooper has always been a true Aussie Legend, inspiring hundreds of people throughout his life and living life as the adventure it is. Everyone was devastated when he suddenly passed away and we wondered whether The Challenge could go on without him. Obviously Shane would want it to go on and it is!
So now the organising of this amazing and huge national event is behind schedule as we pull ourselves together to get on with the job and create the most fabulous Lower Lakes Challenge yet. The fundraising has been fun with sausage sizzles, raffles and a movie night. The endless round of committee meetings with our wonderful group of dedicated people finding the time in their busy lives to bring this unique experience of the Aussie bush lifestyle to the many. We’ve had great support from local and interstate businesses sponsoring time and money and a fun collection of entertainers and vendors coming together to take the festival to a new level.
We’re all set. The Challenge is on! And then came the floods.
South Australia is the driest state on the driest continent on the planet and we get flooded out with the most extraordinary and unprecedented rainfall.
The call to postpone such a big event was a tough moment in Challenge history but we really had no choice. It’s the Aussie way to bounce back and fight on and that’s exactly what we did! With all the support of our extensive network of members, competitors, volunteers, sponsors, entertainers, vendors and suppliers, The Lower Lakes Stockman’s Challenge & Bush Festival is on in 13 days.
See you there!
2016 so far…..
